Student Profile: Amanda Holmes

Villanova University, Second Year PhD Student in Philosophy

I am taking this course for credit

My research interests include: political theory, critical theory, psychoanalysis, feminism, and queer theory. The key historical figures I am most interested in include Spinoza, Kant, Hegel, Marx, and Hannah Arendt.

Most of my research addresses questions about the relationship between affect and politics. I am curious about non-rational, non-discursive elements of political life.  I have recently begun work on a project on the concept of solidarity as one of these kinds of affective elements of political life and am interested in the articulation of solidarity in the work of Hannah Arendt. I presented a draft of this project at a conference on the 50th year anniversary publication of On Revolution in Santiago, Chile a few months ago and am excited to return to that text and others throughout this class.
